Certified Scaffolding Supervisor

Certified Scaffolding Supervisor

Scaffolding is an integral part of most industries like construction, repair and maintenance. To make sure that the field crews involved working at elevated levels are safe at their jobs, proper scaffolding is a must. Equipping awareness to the workers helps in avoiding workplace accidents and supports in effectively delivering tasks that reduce risks and related costs.

This Certified Scaffolding Supervisor improves expertise in scaffolding operations for a range of industries. This course enables participants to have the necessary skills and engineering solutions in scaffolding. This includes best practices for scaffold construction, erection, modification, dismantling and sustaining safety and stability. Learners will also obtain proficiency in safe scaffold access, identifying hazards, fall protection and complying with industry guidelines and business standards.

The course comprises four core units with every unit dealing with essential aspects of scaffold erection and structural integrity.

Part 1: Fundamentals of Scaffolding

This unit delivers a basic knowledge of the principles of scaffolding.

  • This unit delivers a basic knowledge of the principles of scaffolding.
  • Major classifications and terms of scaffolding.
  • Legal regulations and conformity to BS EN 12811-1:2003.
  • Need an appropriate foundation setup that avoids scaffold collapse.
  • Various types of ties for scaffold stability.
  • Fundamental needs for temporary work platforms on scaffolds.

Part 2: Scaffold Erection and Components

This unit emphasises techniques and aspects related to scaffold erection.

  • Kinds of ladders that are beneficial for safe access and entry to scaffolds.
  • Techniques for safe lifting and handling of scaffold components.
  • Types of ropes, knots, and hitches utilised while erection.
  • Appropriate ways to safely lower scaffold components.

Part 3: Challenges in Scaffold Erection

This section delves into the general issues encountered during scaffold erection and reduction approaches.

  • Business demands and diverse working strategies on scaffolds.
  • Recognising potential challenges and hazards in scaffold erection.

Part 4: Types of Scaffolding Systems

This unit integrates types of scaffolding and related applications.

  • Independent tied scaffold – Beneficial for common access and construction activities.
  • Putlog scaffold –Suitable for brickwork and masonry and is supported by the building structure.
  • Birdcage scaffold – suits ceiling work and areas with extensive access.
  • Tower scaffold –ensures easy relocation with its mobile structure
  • System scaffold – This modular scaffold gives versatility and stability.

The Certified Scaffolding Supervisor course is designed to improve the technical competency, statutory requirements, and hands-on expertise to carry out scaffolding operations safely and efficiently.
