OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

OTHM LEVEL 6 qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety are the perfect courses for those who are in or seeking to advance their career to a senior role in an organisation and are involved in managing health and safety policy and practice. Upon successful course completion, learners will develop the essential skills and knowledge to understand the legal and regulatory requirements of occupational health and safety policy. Furthermore, they also have proficiencies in evaluating policies, advice and executing policy changes.

Learners will also be provided with the skills and competencies to put policy into effect, embrace management systems, and resources, effective at risk and incident management, leadership, and management skills.

Entry Requirements of OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

To enrol into the Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety qualification, learners should have:

  • Diploma or suitable QCF/RQF/NQF certification or any similar acknowledged qualification that comprises the fundamental Occupational Health & Safety concepts.

Qualifications that meet this requirement include:

  • British Safety Council Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.

  • British Safety Council International Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate.

  • NCFE IOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.

  • NCRQ Level 6 Certificate in Applied Health and Safety.

  • The learner should be 18 years or older during starting this course.

  • Mature learners of age 21+ with practical 2+ years of experience are also eligible.

Equivalences of OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

OTHM qualifications at RQF Level 6 stand for practical skills, knowledge, abilities and proficiencies that are evaluated in academic terms being equal to:

  • Bachelor’s Degrees with Honors.
  • Bachelor’s Degrees.
  • Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
  • Graduate Diplomas.

Assessment and verification

All units of the qualification are assessed internally by the centre and externally by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion-referenced, meaning that they are derived based on the accomplishment of overall specific learning outcomes.

Learners should provide evidence that showcases they have met learning outcomes and the standards set out in all assessment criteria and this enables them to achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit. Typically, the Assessor will make the Judgement that ensures the learners have satisfied the assessment criteria.

Progression of OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

  • Upon successful completion of the Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety qualification, the learners become competent to explore a range of Occupational Health and Safety roles.
  • Individuals achieving the diploma qualification become eligible candidates to apply for the Graduate level of membership Cert IOSH.
  • The eligible individuals for Graduate membership then have to undergo an Initial Professional Development period after submitting their practical skills in a skills development portfolio (IPD). At the end of the course, learners have to face a professional review interview. Once they successfully complete this IPD process, students become eligible for Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).
